NEW APPROACHES TO LEARNING THE GERMAN LANGUAGE IN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS ON THE EXAMPLE OF WEBQUEST

Abstract

The article is devoted to the modern method of teaching the German language using information technology on the example of WebQuest. During the study of German at Higher Education Institutions there is a need to modernize the learning process, to promote students’ motivation for independent work, as well as to improve their skills of critical analysis. In addition, an example of WebQuest is discussed. The stages of the WebQuest were analyzed. An article also deals with the formal aspects of implementing this method in German language classes, as well as with possible obstacles for students and teachers.

The aim of the article is to establish favorable conditions for the effective use of the WebQuest for German language lessons and to explore strategies and techniques for implementing such a model in the university.

The formation of students' linguistic competence is associated with the need to introduce a new vision of the learning process as an information environment, where the teacher promotes the education and comprehensive development of the individual from the standpoint of humanism and openness, while acting as a moderator and advisor, allowing students to take a leading position. Among the main advantages of the WebQuest method are: student's self-development; ability to choose the form of presentation of work results independently; group work; activation of the cognitive apparatus.

The publication discusses the main stages of building a WebQuest: choosing a topic, formulating a task, a list of available materials, a description of the work process, evaluation of results and presentation of background information. It also outlines the need for a sensible approach to student assessment criteria.
