LINGUAL CREATIVITY OF AUTHOR’S INNOVATIONS IN LITERARY DISCOURSE
Abstract
Linguistic status of author’s innovations as nonce-units is determined by their speech character. The origin and functioning of nonce-words in fiction are stipulated by communicative needs: nominative and pragmatic, the latter being the dominant one. The article focuses on complex study of noncewords formation on the basis of foreign units, their identification and interpretation in Modern English literature. Nonce-words revealing the creative potential of the author’s creative activity are analyzed as to their structural and functional aspects. The study distinguishes the main functions of nonce-words created on the basis of foreign units, used as a material for creative activity and individual author’s word-formation, and determines their role in the structural and conceptual system of literary work: the noncewords serve as a means of realization of the author’s intention aimed at exercising influence on the reader, to satisfy stylistic and aesthetic purposes of the author, being the result of his creative activity.
