Abstract

The article gives a brief analysis of theoretical works devoted to the peculiarities of linguistic cliché in the English and Ukrainian languages. The author focuses on the fact that LCU is at the point of intersection of the sciences, so it is considered as part of the phrasebook or as an element of the pattern of speech or business communication. Though linguistic cliché should be investigated as an independent phenomenon, a separate linguistic constitution, moreover it should be analyzed from the point of view of intercultural communication and stereotypical special standardized linguistic units. The major characteristic of LCU is the ability to variability, as well as the presence of synonymous and antonymous chains.

The factual material reflects the constitutional features of the English language units and their Ukrainian correspondences. So, synonyms include structural and stylistic similars, univerbs and multiverbs. LCU with the structure of the phrase and whole sentences retaining the motivational attributes of the nomination are structurally stylistic similars within the same lexical notion. LCU are disposed to the process of univerbalization when they move to the level of daily communication. With the help of a contractional truncation the LCU is replaced by a single component during the re-nomination.

Among the antonymous chains counter, contradictory and complementary pairs can be distinguished. Counter LCU nominate the opposite concepts between which one or more intermediate concepts are possible. When the relation between LCU is contradictory, the scope of species concepts constitutes the entire volume of generic notion, so there is no intermediate term between them. Complementary antonymous LCU designate two complementary species concepts that together form a generic term without intermediate links.
